Stockings do reach above the calf and have an inserted or incorporated elastic band with a solid ending. Stockings are standardized in size and dimension.

The denomination „Stockings“ can be traced back right into the 13th century and meant at that time “hollow trunk of a tree”. In the 16th century this one-piece leg-fashion was divided into two parts: pants and stockings (remaining part). The term “stockings” thus became the name of a piece of clothing.
