Cotton is the seed fibre of the cotton plant. Cotton is the primary textile product in the world. It’s harvested mainly in China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Eastern Europe and the U.S.A. The seed fibres which are approximately 6 cm long are spun into threads. The functional advantage of cotton is its skin friendliness and its possibility to absorb humidity of up to 20% of its own weight. The humidity is stored in the tiny holes of the fibres and thus the cotton doesn’t feel humid for a long time. Further advantages of cotton: it is boil-proof, can be cleaned endlessly, is non-fading, and stockings made from cotton are very comfortable to wear. The only disadvantage of cotton is that it has a low breaking or scrub resistance.
